Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation, incorporated under State legislation in 1973. Over the past 35 years we have grown to one hundred and thirty staff delivering a range of health services across multiple sites in Perth.
Our main sources of funding are:
- Office of Aboriginal Health, State Department of Health (OAH)
- Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Department of Health and Ageing (OATSIH)
- Medicare revenue generated through the GP Clinics
The service is staffed by health professionals such as:
- Aboriginal Health Workers
- Home and Community Care Workers (HACC program)
- Care Aides
- Registered Nurses
- Doctors
- Case Workers
- Podiatrist
- Physiotherapist
- Dental
- Stolen Generation
- Welfare
- Ear/Eye Health
These health professionals are supported by a management team, medical receptionists, drivers and a small corporate area (finance, information technology and human resources).
The service values leadership within a service delivery model offering holistic and culturally appropriate care and our constitution provides for an Aboriginal Chief Executive Officer. Governance is provided by a community elected Executive Committee (Board). About 70% of our staff are Aboriginal with many holding open employment positions as well as positions allocated for Aboriginal people under section 50D of the Equal Employment Opportunity legislation.
